ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP:

The Commonwealth Government Scholarships are awarded for research programs at the University of Newcastle.  Therefore, applicants will be asked if you would like to be assessed for a research scholarship under the Research Training Program (RTP).

The award covers the student for the whole period of study that is 4 years for PhD candidates & 2 years for MPhil students.

The Commonwealth Government scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Therefore, Grade Point Average (GPA) for your bachelor’s degree and any extra research attainments will be taken into consideration.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Government University of Newcastle Scholarships 2019, you must meet the criteria below;

  • An International student
  • Meet the admissions criteria for entry into the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program (MPhil or PhD)
  • Be able to satisfy the University’s English Language Proficiency requirements
  • Get support from a research supervisor who is a member of the University of Newcastle academic staff

SCHOLARSHIP VALUE: 

The University of Newcastle or the Commonwealth Government will cover the expenses below;

  • Annual living allowance ($27,596 – 2019 rate)
  • Tuition fees
  • Overseas Student Health coverage (in some cases)

HOW TO APPLY: 

STEP 1:

Browse the university website to find a research degree (MPhil or PhD) in the list of higher degrees by research.

STEP 2:

All applicants should find a supervisor. Therefore, you should complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form and have it signed by a potential University of Newcastle supervisor.

STEP 3:

Write and submit a research proposal indicating your proposed area of research. However, you are required to consult an academic staff member with a similar area of research you are interested in pursuing

  • English Language proficiency proof
  • Official passport or birth certificate
  • Copies of all academic transcripts and completion certificates in English
  • Evidence of any publications
  • Research proposal for the intended course of study
  • Proof of prior research experience
  • Curriculum vitae with relevant dates showing your research roles & responsibilities and position description.
